Jakarta: A New Journey | Successful Conclusion of China-Indonesia Environmental Industry Cooperation Forum, Jointly Painting the Green Blueprint of the "Belt and Road"

On April 24, 2026, to deepen practical cooperation in green development, explore new opportunities in the environmental protection industry, and expand new paths for cooperation, the China-Indonesia Environmental Industry Cooperation Forum & Project Matching Conference, hosted by the All-China Environment Federation, was grandly held at the Pullman Jakarta Hotel in Indonesia.

Meeting Scene

Centered on the theme of Green Development & New Opportunities for Environmental Industry Cooperation, the forum gathered nearly 100 distinguished guests, including senior government officials, industry associations, leading enterprises, investment institutions and authoritative experts. The participating Indonesian side included officials and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry (BKPM), Ministry of Environment, and other relevant government departments; principals of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and its standing committees, staff of the Chairman’s Office, and representatives of the KADIN China Committee; the Chairman, Chief Treasurer, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Industrial Estates Association (HKI); representatives of major industrial parks such as Bekasi Fajar Industrial Park, Safe n Lock Halal Industrial Park, Industropolis Batang and Wiraraja Indonesia. Also present were delegates from renowned enterprises including Sinarmas Group, research institutions such as the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), professional service providers like Pasaka Rievan Smith Law Firm, and industrial enterprises represented by Sun Group. The event also drew representatives from Chinese environmental protection leading enterprises, research institutes and media organizations. All participants conducted in-depth exchanges and in-depth discussions on policy coordination, technological innovation, project implementation, industrial co-construction and long-term cooperation. They jointly explored cooperation paths, shared development opportunities and sought green growth prospects. The forum has built a professional, targeted and international docking platform for China-Indonesia environmental industry cooperation, further advancing the steady and in-depth development of the Green Belt and Road Initiative.


Building Consensus: A New Starting Point for Sino-Indonesian Environmental Cooperation

At the opening ceremony, Shi Xiang, Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the Belt and Road Eco-Industry Cooperation Working Committee, All-China Environment Federation, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer. He pointed out that the cooperation between China and Indonesia in the environmental protection industry is not only a continuation of the long-standing friendship between the two countries, but also a new starting point for green development in the future. He emphasized that China will take this forum as a bridge, focus on key areas such as water treatment, solid waste management, clean energy and green industrial parks, promote the efficient coordination of technology, standards, talents and capital, facilitate the localized application of high-quality environmental protection technologies and solutions in Indonesia, transform cooperation consensus into concrete projects, and help the high-quality development of both countries with Chinese wisdom, solutions and strength.

Policy Empowerment: Unleashing the Potential of Indonesia's Environmental Industry

Government representatives from Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry (BKPM), Ministry of Environment delivered speeches respectively, comprehensively interpreting the policy orientation and development opportunities of Indonesia's environmental protection industry.

Mr. Arifianto Sofiyanto, Director of the East Asia Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that China and Indonesia have a solid foundation for cooperation in environmental protection and new energy fields. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to provide policy support and diplomatic guarantees for bilateral industrial cooperation to promote in-depth cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Winardi Kemenperin, Director of the Industrial Space Department of the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, pointed out that Indonesia is vigorously advancing the construction of a green industrial system, with urgent needs for upgrading environmental protection infrastructure, promoting industrial low-carbon transformation and developing a circular economy. Water treatment, solid waste disposal and clean energy have become key areas for bilateral cooperation.

Mr. Cahyo Purnomo, Director of Investment Promotion for East Asia, South Asia, Middle East, and Africa, Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry(BKPM), stated that environmental protection, new energy and green manufacturing are key investment areas. Indonesia will provide one-stop approval, park supporting facilities, policy incentives and full-process support for Chinese enterprises to invest and develop in Indonesia.

Mr. Mufti Zuchair, an official from the Indonesian Ministry of Environment, interpreted the AMDAL (Indonesian environmental impact assessment) framework, emphasizing that Indonesia is continuously improving environmental standards and regulatory systems, and is eager to introduce advanced environmental protection technologies and mature governance experience to promote the high-quality development of the environmental protection industry.


Industry Synergy: Deepening Practical Cooperation

Many relevant responsible persons from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) attended the forum, participated in exchanges and delivered speeches, including the Vice Chairman Coordinator for Investment, Downstreaming, Energy, and Environmental Affairs of KADIN Indonesia, Head of the Office of Chairman Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN), Vice Secretary General of KADIN Indonesia China Committee (KIKT), as well as the responsible persons of various standing committees such as membership affairs, investment promotion, and environment and waste treatment. This fully demonstrates the high attention and strong support of the Indonesian business community for the environmental cooperation between China and Indonesia.

Bobby Gafur Umar, Vice Chairman Coordinator for Investment, Downstreaming, Energy, and Environmental Affairs of KADIN Indonesia, delivered a speech at the forum, systematically elaborating on Indonesia's green investment opportunities. He stated that Indonesia boasts abundant renewable energy resources, a large consumer market, and the world's leading nickel reserves. He highlighted six key cooperation areas, including renewable energy, green downstream industries, water treatment, waste-to-energy, electric vehicle battery ecosystems, and carbon markets & green finance, extending a warm welcome to Chinese enterprises to participate deeply in Indonesia's green development.

Representatives from the Indonesian Industrial Estates Association(HKI) attended the forum, including Akhmad Ma'ruf Maulana, Chairman of HKI, Leo Yulianto Sutedja, General Tresuare of HKI and Adi Teja, Vice Chairman of HKI. They fully engaged in docking with Chinese counterparts to meet the cooperation needs.

Representatives from HKI introduced that HKI covers 24 provinces in Indonesia, managing more than 170 industrial parks with a total industrial land area of over 160,000 hectares. As an important platform for industrial agglomeration, HKI has always attached great importance to cooperation with Chinese enterprises. It has in-depth cooperation with Chinese enterprises in clean energy, waste management and other fields, and is committed to building a green and efficient industrial cooperation system.


Park Promotion: Key Industrial Parks Release Cooperation Opportunities

The forum specifically includes a special session for industrial park promotion, where the Bekasi Fajar Industrial Park, Safe n Lock Halal Industrial Park, and the Industropolis Batang respectively introduced their advantages and cooperation needs, all expressing an open and cooperative attitude to welcome Chinese enterprises to settle in and carry out in-depth cooperation.



Expert Sharing: Insight into Global Green Development Trends

Katherine Hasan, an analyst from the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and a core international expert of SPS, shared her insights and pointed out that Indonesia's current power structure is highly dependent on coal, with relatively loose emission standards for coal-fired power plants, leading to prominent air pollution problems. She called on Indonesia to learn from China's governance experience to strengthen air pollution control, and expressed optimism about the broad cooperation prospects between China and Indonesia in the field of clean energy transformation.


Enterprise Voices: Chinese Technology Empowers Indonesia's Green Development

The forum featured a themed speech session for Chinese enterprises, where Chinese environmental protection enterprises made a collective appearance. Tongfang Environment Co., Ltd. presented its mature technologies in metal resource recycling and hazardous waste incineration disposal. As the first listed company on the Main Board in the segmented sector of waste gas and odor treatment, Hangzhou Chuhuan Technology Co., Ltd. has successfully expanded its overseas markets to Thailand, the Middle East and other regions. Jiangsu Taiyuan Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. introduced the TIMP prefabricated modular water treatment system, which shortens the construction cycle of traditional water plants to 60–88 days. TERRECO Environmental Solutions shared its technological strengths and overseas practical experience in comprehensive environmental remediation. East China Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. shared its experience in low-carbon green park planning, urban infrastructure and large-scale public building design, empowering the high-quality development of Indonesia’s industrial new towns through internationalized and low-carbon top-level design. Akan Group (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. elaborated on the Group’s technological advantages and overseas layout in green building materials and urban infrastructure construction. All Chinese enterprises expressed their willingness to fully align their advanced technologies with Indonesia’s green development needs and jointly advance pragmatic cooperation in the environmental protection industry between China and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, representatives of Indonesian local enterprises and international cooperative enterprises actively engaged in exchanges, including China Strategic Director, Energy Sector, Sinar Mas Group (Indonesia), Director of Procurement and Business Cooperation of Sun Group, Co-founder of Lumina, Vice President of the Asian Chinese Youth Association, and Partner of Pacific Nusantara Partners. They have built a solid bridge for business docking between Chinese and Indonesian enterprises.


Precise Alignment: Multiple Cooperation Intentions Reached

The forum specially set up sessions for project matchmaking and free exchanges. Representatives from Chinese and Indonesian enterprises, government authorities and institutions held face-to-face negotiations, conducting efficient docking in fields including technology introduction, engineering cooperation, equipment supply, investment and development, as well as joint park construction. A number of enterprises on-site reached preliminary cooperation intentions covering water treatment, solid waste disposal, environmental protection equipment, green park supporting facilities and other sectors, laying a solid foundation for in-depth cooperation in the future.


Successful Conclusion: Jointly Building the Green Belt and Road

Co-organized by the Belt and Road Eco-Industry Cooperation Working Committee, the Professional Committee for Green Urban Development, and the Fujian Office of All-China Environment Federation, and supported by Sinarmas Group, the forum came to a successful close.

As an important practice of the Belt and Road Green Brand Going Global Initiative, the event has built a cooperation platform, consolidated development consensus, advanced project docking and deepened bilateral friendship. It not only injects strong impetus into China-Indonesia environmental protection industry cooperation, but also serves as a vivid footnote to the high-quality development of the Green Belt and Road.
