China and Saudi Arabia Jointly Build a New Chapter of the Green Silk Road — All-China Environment Federation Leads Delegation to Saudi Embassy to Discuss Ecological Industry Cooperation
On August 13, 2025, in order to deepen pragmatic cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia in the field of ecological and environmental protection, Shi Xiang, Secretary-General of the Belt and Road Eco-Industry Cooperation Committee of the All-China Environment Federation, led a delegation of overseas members to visit the Commercial Office of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in China. The delegation held discussions with Commercial Counselor Dr. Saleh Alchurair and Deputy Counselor Musaad. The two sides focused on water environment management, water purification equipment, seawater desalination, and low-carbon technology transfer, exploring pathways for ecological industrial cooperation under the Belt and Road framework.

Strengthening China-Saudi Environmental Cooperation for Green Development
At the symposium, Shi Xiang, Secretary-General of the Belt and Road Eco-Industry Cooperation Committee of the All-China Environment Federation, introduced the role of the federation and the committee in promoting international environmental cooperation. He emphasized their commitment to building a bridge for collaboration in the ecological and environmental field between China and Belt and Road countries, promoting green technology exchange, industrial cooperation, and project implementation, thereby contributing to ecological protection and sustainable development. Saudi Arabia, as the economic engine of the Middle East, has strategic plans for environmental protection and energy transition that provide a broad stage for Chinese enterprises. Under the guidance of Saudi Vision 2030, the green economy is becoming a new driver of regional development. Chinese enterprises, with mature technological capacity and extensive practical experience, have already demonstrated strong competitiveness in wastewater treatment, seawater desalination, and low-carbon technologies.Dr. Saleh Alchurair highly praised the efforts of the All-China Environment Federation to promote China-Saudi ecological industry cooperation. He provided a detailed introduction to the strategic plans related to environmental protection and energy transition in Saudi Vision 2030. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia is accelerating its green economic development, especially in water resource management, renewable energy development, and low-carbon technology application, with vast market potential. He welcomed the active participation of Chinese enterprises. He further stressed that the Commercial Office of the Embassy would continue to play the role of a bridge, helping enterprises connect resources, deepen pragmatic cooperation, and jointly write a new chapter of the Green Silk Road.
Focusing on Saudi Arabia’s Water Environmental Challenges: Chinese Enterprises Providing Innovative Solutions
Yunnan Hexu Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese provider of decentralized environmental governance solutions, has been deeply engaged in the fields of wastewater treatment and waste disposal for over a decade, with a strong focus on technological innovation and industrial application. Its product system comprehensively covers township decentralized domestic wastewater treatment, rural household and cluster wastewater treatment, and urban distributed wastewater treatment and resource utilization. In response to Saudi Arabia’s unique environmental needs, the company has independently developed a decentralized wastewater treatment system with significant advantages: Outstanding environmental adaptability, using materials resistant to high temperatures (up to 50°C) and modular designs suitable for arid climates; Efficient resource utilization, enabling wastewater reuse to greatly alleviate Saudi Arabia’s water scarcity; Rapid deployment capacity, applicable to remote communities and tourist areas with weak infrastructure; Modular combinations allowing flexible adjustments of treatment scale as required. This technological solution aligns with the sustainable development goals of Saudi Vision 2030, achieving zero wastewater discharge and recycled water reuse, thereby offering an innovative Chinese solution for Saudi Arabia’s smart city construction and water resource management.
Beijing OriginWater Technology Co., Ltd. shared major breakthroughs in seawater desalination technology innovation. The company has independently developed ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membrane products, with core technical indicators (including flux, recovery rate, and desalination rate) reaching international leading levels. It successfully broke through the technical integration barriers of large-scale membrane-based seawater desalination projects with a daily capacity of more than 100,000 tons, achieving domestic substitution. This technological achievement not only significantly reduces the cost of seawater desalination but also provides practical solutions for water-scarce countries such as Saudi Arabia. In addition, OriginWater detailed its household water purification products tailored to Middle Eastern market demands, including the U200P1 desktop hot & cold water purifier, the ZL8510E atmospheric water generator, and the U608 desktop purifier. These products efficiently ensure high-quality drinking water, particularly suited to regions with water scarcity, injecting new momentum into deep cooperation between China and Belt and Road countries in water resource management.
Dr. Saleh Alchurair fully affirmed the technological achievements of Yunnan Hexu Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. and Beijing OriginWater Technology Co., Ltd., noting that these innovations address Saudi Arabia’s pressing environmental needs and have broad application prospects. He encouraged both companies to further strengthen communication and alignment with Saudi local enterprises, jointly exploring cooperation models suited to the local market, and promoting project implementation. He emphasized that the cooperation potential between China and Saudi Arabia in green development is enormous, and he looked forward to more Chinese environmental companies seizing opportunities, actively participating in Saudi ecological and environmental projects, and contributing to the realization of Vision 2030 while setting a model for the global expansion of Chinese environmental technologies.
This dialogue laid an important foundation for deepening cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia in the field of environmental protection while efficiently establishing a platform for enterprise collaboration. Both sides agreed to establish a regular communication mechanism. Going forward, the All-China Environment Federation will continue to play its role as a bridge, organizing multi-sectoral technical exchanges and matchmaking activities based on Saudi Arabia’s specific needs, focusing on practical cooperation in clean energy, solid waste treatment, and ecological restoration. These efforts aim to promote complementary advantages and mutual benefits between the two countries’ environmental industries, creating a more solid foundation for future cooperation.
