Belt and Road Eco-Industry Cooperation Working Committee of All-China Environment Federation Visits Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in China to Promote Sino-Vietnamese Energy and Environm
February 19, 2025 — To deepen practical cooperation between China and Vietnam in the fields of energy transition and environmental protection, and to promote green and low-carbon development, Shi Xiang, Secretary-General of the Belt and Road Eco-Industry Cooperation Working Committee of the China Environmental Protection Federation, and Emma Chen from the International Affairs Department, visited Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in China, and held discussions with Nong Duc Lai, the Commercial Counselor of the embassy. The meeting was regarding the preparations for the upcoming "China-Vietnam Energy Enterprise Delegation" scheduled for March 23-27. The visit received high attention and support from the embassy.
During the meeting, Shi Xiang introduced the background and objectives of the delegation to Nong Duc Lai. He stated that Vietnam, as a pioneer in green energy development in Southeast Asia, has accumulated rich experience in renewable energy development and low-carbon technology applications. The purpose of this delegation is to establish a platform for exchanges between Chinese and Vietnamese energy enterprises, promoting policy communication, technical collaboration, and project alignment in areas such as waste management, resource utilization, and new energy (including photovoltaic, wind power, and energy storage). This initiative aims to inject new momentum into global climate governance and regional green development. Nong Duc Lai highly praised the delegation's activities and expressed willingness to provide support in coordinating itineraries and facilitating enterprise connections to ensure the efficient progress of the event.
During the meetings, both sides also explored the prospects of Sino-Vietnamese environmental cooperation. Secretary-General Shi Xiang further pointed out that China and Vietnam have broad cooperation potential in the environmental sector, particularly in biomass energy, water resource management, and solid waste treatment. Both countries can share successful cases and jointly promote the application of environmentally friendly technologies and products. The China Environmental Protection Federation is willing to serve as a bridge, facilitating exchanges and cooperation between environmental organizations, research institutions, and enterprises from both countries, contributing to regional and global sustainable development.
Nong Duc Lai agreed with this perspective, noting that the Vietnamese government has placed environmental protection and sustainable development at the core of its national development strategy. He expressed hope to accelerate green development goals through cooperation with countries including China. Additionally, he provided detailed information about the upcoming Vietnam Investment Promotion Conference in Beijing, expressing anticipation for deepening cooperation with the China Environmental Protection Federation's "Belt and Road" Working Committee during the conference. He looked forward to exploring opportunities for ecological cooperation and promoting the implementation of more substantive projects.
The delegation to Vietnam will be organized by the All-China Environment Federation and will include representatives from investment companies, infrastructure companies, technology firms, equipment manufacturers, research institutions, and universities in the energy and environmental sectors. The delegation plans to visit demonstration projects in Ho Chi Minh City and other locations, covering waste management, wind energy, solar energy, and bioenergy. They will explore technological applications and investment prospects, engage in dialogues with Vietnamese government agencies such as the Ministry of Trade and Investment and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, as well as leading industry enterprises, to discuss cooperation opportunities and market potential. This will help the delegation understand the technological applications and market opportunities in Vietnam's waste management and renewable energy sectors, laying the foundation for future cooperation.
