Technical principle

The technical engineering smolder is as Figure1.The smolder process is ignited by locally heating the heavily polluted porous medium, and exothermic oxidation reaction of organic contaminants pre-heats ambient medium and makes smolder forward. The smolder process is maintained and reacted forward by intaking air to the porous medium till covering all polluted aera. The smolder process can be adjusted or even stopped by controlling air rate of flow. Smolder exhaust gas is collected by negative press.

Scope of application

Engineering smolder technology is mainly used to treat polluted medium or site remediation of high contaminant concentration, especially suitable for critical remediation need of sludge-oily solid waste/hazardous waste and heavily TPH-polluted soil. It will benefit to speed up the treatment process of large quantity of stock sludge.

Process flow and description

1. Most of oily solid waste/ hazardous waste need to be dehydrated (eg, dewatering by press filtrating) because of the high water content with the water content down to below 50%.The waste water is sedimented in tank and transported to Sewage treatment plant to be treated and discharged up to standards.

2.Depending upon dispersibility and permeability of dehydrated oily solid waste, do or do not mix permeability-enhancement medium into it.

3.After uploading the oily solid waste into smolder reactor, start smolder treatment process.

4.The organic exhaust gas of smolder process is treated by waste gas treatment system and discharged up to standards.

5. The solid residue of smolder process is checked, and sent out to be utilized if qualified. Otherwise it is go back to be smoldered again.

Engineering smolder is a emerging technology for oily solid waste. It can completely eliminate all organic contaminants and the solid residue is meet state class-I construction land standard, which solve the way out difficulty of solid waste/hazardous waste as sludge. Beside its process safety the tech has greater advantage of low cost over same kind of other tech. Engineering smolder is benefit for speeding up the process of huge quantity of stack oily waste of our country, and has wide application market.
