Xinjiangs Construction Plan for Development of a Transport Center on the Silk Road Economic Belt from 2016 to 2030

Urumqi and Kashgar will become international transportation hubs, according to a construction plan for the development of a transport center on the Silk Road Economic Belt from 2016 to 2030, issued by the government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The plan classified the transport centers into four levels: international, national, regional and local.

The transport hubs of Urumqi and Kashgar also cover adjacent satellite cities and are expected to become a comprehensive exchange center forpeople, logistics and information between China and Europe, Central and West Asia.

The five national-level centers are Yining, Hami, Kuerle, Karamay and Altay. The seven regional hubs are Hotan, Aksu, Tacheng, Bole and Shihezi.  

The plan says Xinjiang should have a multi-level comprehensive transport network in line with the country's opening up requirements, which would transform Xinjiang from a terminus to transport hub on the Eurasian continent.

Scores of railways will be built in the process, connecting Xinjiang with neighboring countries and regions.
