China and Brazil Jointly Chart a Green Future: COP30 Side Event Focuses on Agri-Food and Energy System Transition
On the morning of November 13 (local time in Brazil), the All-China Environment Federation (ACEF) and Brazil’s Centro de Estudos e Gestao Estratégica (CGEE, Centre for Management and Strategic Studies) co-hosted a thematic side event titled Green Trade and the Future of Agri-Food and Sustainable Energy Systems: Brazil and China in focus at the AgriZone venue during COP30. The event conducted pragmatic dialogues on sustainable agri-food systems, clean energy transition, and pathways for green trade.
Representatives from research institutions, enterprises, and youth groups of both nations engaged in-depth discussions on key topics such as green supply chain optimization, circular economy models, low-carbon agricultural technologies, and bio-energy innovation.
In his remarks,Wang Jiajia, Deputy Director of the Public Welfare Department, All-China Environment Federation, noted that China and Brazil—both major countries in the Global South—enjoy broad cooperation potential in advancing the Green Belt and Road Initiative. He emphasized that ACEF will continue to play its role as a platform to promote industrial alignment and technological collaboration between China and Brazil in areas including sustainable agriculture and new energy systems, thereby helping build a more resilient global green supply chain. Guests including Gustavo Mozzer, Global Policy Director of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA); Huang Changtong, China Program Director of FAIRR; and Caetano Penna, Director of CGEE, delivered guiding remarks on low-carbon agricultural practices, sustainable supply chain innovation, and China-Brazil science and technology cooperation mechanisms.
The "Belt and Road" Eco-industry Cooperation Working Committee of ACEF invited representatives from Chinese enterprises to participate in roundtable discussion.
He Changhua, Head of Kingfa Science & Technology Co., Ltd’s Brazil Office, introduced the company’s practices in the circular utilization of polymer materials and green supply chain development, and proposed a collaborative plan to advance the high-value application and localized production of recycled plastics in Brazil.
Ju Ran, an ACEF volunteer for COP30 and a Chinese youth representative, highlighted that the vertical integration of energy, industrial parks, and equipment sectors is key to addressing the future development needs of the digital economy. She also introduced the transformation practice of developing organic agriculture in Datong, Shanxi Province: by using organic acids to provide heat for farmland, the project has revitalized ancient rural areas through organic agriculture.
Jonathan Colombo, ESG Expert at LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (LONGi), presented a comprehensive solution for integrating the photovoltaic industry chain with low-carbon agriculture.
Marcelo Fiadeiro, Secretary of Innovation and Sustainable Development at Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, noted that China and Brazil complement each other strongly in areas such as low-carbon agricultural technologies and bio-energy innovation, and should jointly explore green cooperation models that address the development needs of both countries. Rachel Henriques, Technical Advisor at Brazil’s National Office for Energy Research (EPE), further underscored the vital importance of deepening cooperation on energy transition in achieving Brazil’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
The event highlighted the necessity for Chinese and Brazilian enterprises and social organizations to collaborate in green trade, sustainable agri-food, and energy systems. It also stressed that innovation, transparency, and cooperation are key elements in achieving sustainable development and addressing global challenges. As one of the side events hosted by ACEF during COP30, this activity effectively facilitated policy communication and industrial interaction between China and Brazil in key green sectors, laying a solid foundation for establishing a regular cooperation mechanism between enterprises and social organizations of the two countries in the next step.
