On May 20, Shi Xiang, Secretary General of "the Belt and Road" Eco-Industry Cooperation Working Committee of the All China Environment Federation and his delegation paid a visit to H.E. Sobah Rasheed, Deputy Ambassador of the Maldives Embassy in China. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on environmental issues of great concern to the Maldives, such as climate change and water environment protection.
H.E. Sobah Rasheed first extended welcome to the delegation led by our committee. He said that the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of Maldives attaches great importance to the issue of climate change. Maldives has carried out close cooperation with Chinese governments at all levels in the field of environmental protection and climate change for many times over the years. He also stressed that the Chinese government has been actively responding to and making every effort to implement the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development and the goals of "3060 carbon neutrality and carbon peak". It has made outstanding contributions in ecological environmental protection as well as Water governance and other fields and set an example in the world.
Secretary General Shi Xiang thanked the embassy for arranging this meeting. He also introduced the establishment background, development process and future development prospect of the association. He expressed deep sympathy for the extreme climate problems in Maldives in recent years, such as sea-level rise, hurricanes, and rainstorms. Mr. Shi Xiang said that environmental protection is our common responsibility. As a representative environmental protection organization in China, we will work together to promote non-governmental environmental protection cooperation and exchange between the two countries.
The two sides said that they look forward to jointly promoting the exchange and training of environmental protection technologies between relevant government departments, non-governmental organizations and enterprises in the future, and will build an international environmental protection cooperation platform in the form of international forums, summits and mutual visits.
